One Word: Velai Illa Pattadhaari 2 resulted out as an average movie which failed to raise the impact of its first part.

The plot of the of the movie deals with Raghuvaran and his family. After his first slum project he gets a notable fame due to his sincerity on his architectural work and awarded as the best architect engineer of the year.  But when he gets involved with a powerful woman in the corporate world, his life turns around and he becomes a powerful man himself.

The story and screenplay by Soundarya and Dhanush was the main problem of VIP 2 and the movie failed to beat the impact created by the first part of the movie. The entire story was totally predictable and there was nothing new on the storyline. A battle between an educated common man v/s corporate was found totally repetitive and on the screenplay also there were no new elements to impress the viewers. Lots of mismatched situations were overdosed in the story like unwanted songs and overdramatic comedies. The main concept of the story was the fight between Corporate and an architect and this idea was failed and resulted out average because of its non-freshness in the screenplay. The family comedies scenes between Dhanush and Amala were also found as on an exaggerated manner, many situational scenes on the first half between both of them was overdramatic. The first song in the movie showing the main lead character Raghuvaran as a typical hero was totally unwanted and that song was also totally mismatched to the situational scenarios. The emotional scenes in the movie had worked out really well especially the few combinations scenes between Dhanush and Saranaya Ponvannan. With the BGM of Amma Amma song in the VIP first part all there combination scenes were really touching. The father son combination scenes between Dhanush and Samuthirakani were also really good. Bother of their humour scenes was also decent for the situations. The first part of the movie completely travels on the family backdrop of the main lead characters and towards the end of the first half the movie points out to the main plot. The first half ends with the beginning of the battle between the main two leading characters. The second half was good with the packed elements of action, emotions, friendship and survival fights and all these factors was crucial for the story but the writers and makers doesn’t bring anything new, they just repeated the predictable out stuff to the plot. As we saw in the VIP first part, the movie was having good punch dialogues, touching emotional dialogues, heroism dialogues and lengthy dialogues by the main lead character but in this part expect the emotional dialogues all other factors we’re not up to the mark. The impact on the dialogues was not having a real depth, some sort of factors were missing in it to feel its real power. The actions by Dhanush were really good as for a commercial movie, but overall the major drawback in VIP 2 was its story and screenplay.

The direction by Soundarya. R. Rajinikanth was good, overall pretty decent directional work. But Soundarya was not able to score well because of the average screenplay by herself. The entire direction was passionate and she had maintained a good character explanation to each and every characters but her screenplay doesn’t raised up to the proper standard. Lots of mismatched situations were boring and also bringing out some new ideas on the screenplay was not at all seen in her writings. The story by Dhanush was quite good for a commercial backdrop movie but still the entire story was same old repetitive and also the dialogues by Dhanush was also above average. Comparing to the first part the real impact in the dialogues was missing throughout on this sequel. So overall the direction was good but the story and screenplay failed to impress the viewers.

Coming to the performance of lead actors Dhanush who played the main lead character Raghuvaran saves the big time. His performance was absolutely brilliant. The entire performance was energetic, daring and powerful. His actions were also good and all his timings in telling the punch and lengthy dialogues were also perfect. The emotional scenes of Dhanush had also worked out well. He just steals the show.

Kajol as Vasundhara Parameshwar as a Corporate Women had also performed well. She was cute and looking good and the cuteness was also found on her acting. Her lip sinking issues was not having enough troubles; she maintained a good flow in it. The combination scenes between Kajol and Dhanush were also interesting throughout. Her negative shades in the character and her acting towards it had also worked out well. All her scenes at the climax were really good and overall her performance was decent and good.

Amala Paul as Shalini Raghuvaran was good. Her characters were like a controlled wife over the husband and her overall acting was ok. Amala’s character and the situations which she perform to the story was over boozed at many areas but the performance was fine but it’s little bit hard to digest because of the overdramatic situational scenes.

Samuthirakani as Raghuvaran’s father performed brilliantly. All the father son combination scenes were really good.

Saranya Ponvannan as Raghuvaran’s mother performed excellently. Her combination scenes with Dhanush was really touching and totally a brilliantly wroth performance.

The supporting role of Vivek as Azhagusundaram was funny and humorous. Rithu Varma as Anitha and Harishikesh as Raghuvaran’s brother had also performed well for their respective roles.

The technical side of the movie was also good. The cinematography by Sameer Thahir was excellent. The actions and rain fight scenes was captured brilliantly and the frames of first song showing the architectural works was also really good. The editing by Prasanna GK was also crisp and clear.

Sean Roldan Music and BGM was not upto the mark. The songs were average and unimpressive. The BGM was above average. The new VIP BGM was not perfectly matching for the crucial areas of the film but pretty quiet decent.

Aniruth Ravichandran VIP Signature BGM was totally perfect for the turning areas for the movie.

So overall I felt Velaiilla Pattadhari 2 as an average movie in all manners because of the same old predicable storyline and the unworked screenplay. The movie is worth watch only for Dhanush Fans and for the others it will be hard to digest. Expecting an impact of the VIP first part will make everyone sad but watching with an average expectation for a one time watch this VIP 2 is ok.

Verdict: Average

Rating: 5.5/10
